Frequently Asked Questions
When do the classes start and which one can I join?

Classes start in September. Half-year enrolment is possible as of January.

School principals will evaluate and place new students according to the criteria in the German curriculum provided by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). For more information, please contact your school principal.
What is the duration of each course and how often do classes meet?

Courses run for three hours on Saturday mornings during the school year, from September to June. Student have a short break mid-morning for snacks and play. You can find more details about our schedule by following this link.
What materials or resources are required for the courses?

Course books will be available for purchase in September. A list of additional materials, or access to Google Classroom, will be provided by the teacher.

What if I am not sure if these courses will work for me?

Students will have the opportunity to visit our schools for up to three consecutive scheduled weeks, during which they can withdraw and receive a full refund. Please note that registration is required for visiting the school.
Can I get a certificate upon completion of the course?​

All students receive report cards at the mid-year point and at the end of the year. Students who pass the accreditation exams given by the German government receive official certificates (DSD I/II).
What are the class sizes and student-to-teacher ratios?

Class sizes are typically small, with an overall average of 12 students per teacher. Kindergarten classes have a lower student-teacher ratio, as required by the Ontario Ministry of Education.
Do you offer online or hybrid courses?

All courses are held in person. Scarborough will offer hybrid instruction at the German accreditation exam level, the Deutsches Sprachdiplom I/II, for 2024-25. Hybrid students are charged an additional fee of $250 to cover online facilities.
What are the qualifications of your instructors?

All of our teachers have experience in education, and may have worked as full-time educators in German-speaking countries. At the upper levels, teachers who prepare students for standardized exams have undergone supplemental annual training provided by the German government.
